MOT Testing in Ealing

Looking for a reliable MOT in Ealing? At Auto Workshop, we've been looking after local drivers from our garage on Elers Road, just off Northfields Avenue, since 1995. Our on-site MOT bay means your vehicle is tested here, by people who know cars inside out, without being sent anywhere else. Whether you drive a family hatchback, a taxi or a work van, we make your MOT quick, fair and hassle-free.

Class 4 MOTs for Cars, Taxis and Vans

We carry out Class 4 MOT tests, which cover far more than just cars. Class 4 includes:

  • Private cars and motor caravans
  • Taxis and private hire vehicles
  • Small and medium vans (goods vehicles up to 3,000kg design gross weight)
  • Electric and hybrid vehicles

If you run a taxi or a light commercial van around Ealing, Hanwell or Acton, we can keep you on the road with minimal downtime.

What's Included in an MOT?

The MOT is a legal safety and roadworthiness check that most vehicles need once they're three years old, and every year after that. During your test, our MOT tester will carry out:

A raised ramp inspection

We lift your vehicle to check the underside, including suspension, steering, exhaust, fuel lines and corrosion to key structural areas.

A brake test

This is typically done on a brake rolling road, which measures the braking performance of each wheel and the handbrake.

An emissions test (where applicable)

Petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles are checked to make sure exhaust emissions are within legal limits.

Visual & functional checks

These cover lights, tyres, seatbelts, wipers and washers, the windscreen, mirrors, horn, doors, registration plates and the VIN.

You can book your MOT up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out and still keep the same renewal date, so there's no need to leave it until the last minute.

MOTs for Electric and Hybrid Vehicles

Electric vehicles need an MOT too. A fully electric car doesn't need an emissions test, but it still gets every other check, including brakes, tyres, suspension, steering and lights. EVs are heavier than most petrol and diesel cars, so tyres and suspension can wear faster. Because regenerative braking means the brakes are used less, discs can also corrode. We're happy to test electric and hybrid vehicles for drivers across Ealing and West Ealing.

The MOT Doesn't Cover Everything

It's worth knowing that an MOT pass doesn't mean your car is in perfect health. The test is a snapshot of minimum legal standards on the day. It doesn't check things like wheel alignment, engine condition, or clutch and gearbox wear. That's why regular car servicing is just as important as your annual MOT. Servicing catches wear and tear early, protects your engine and helps avoid bigger repair bills later.

The government sets a maximum fee for a Class 4 MOT, and many garages charge less.

How long does an MOT take?

A Class 4 MOT usually takes 45 to 60 minutes. Because Auto Workshop tests on site at Elers Road, W13, you're welcome to drop your car off or wait while it's tested.

Can I get an MOT before my current one runs out?

Yes. You can have your MOT up to one month (minus a day) before it expires and keep the same renewal date. For example, if your MOT runs out on 15 May, you can have it tested from 16 April.

Do electric cars need an MOT?

Yes. Electric and hybrid cars need an MOT from three years old, like petrol and diesel cars. Fully electric vehicles don't need an emissions test, but every other check still applies. Auto Workshop tests EVs and hybrids in Ealing.

Can you MOT my taxi or van?

Yes, as long as it falls within Class 4. That covers taxis, private hire vehicles and vans up to 3,000kg design gross weight. Auto Workshop carries out Class 4 MOTs at our Ealing test centre.

We'll explain what failed and give you a clear repair quote. If Auto Workshop carries out the repairs, your retest is free.
